PRO #4: It works! While I didn’t see the tartar dissolve overnight, with 3 months of consistent use, I noticed that the areas of tartar were getting smaller.

The Bad:

CON #1: You won’t see overnight results. You must use it consistently for at least 3 months.
CON #2: You must mix the water and concentrate. This could lead to inconsistent solutions that you use.

CON #3: This is not a replacement for brushing. The tartar removal works best when you brush, floss, and use periogen.

Periogen Price

The oral rinse comes at $26.95 for a 3 ounce supply of the concentrate. This amount is good for 4-5 months worth of mouth rinse. I think that for what the product does (remove tartar), this is a very reasonable price. My dental assistant removes tartar painfully during a visit that costs three times that amount.

My Final Opinion of Periogen Tartar Removal

This is my new oral rinse. I think that it is working and it makes my mouth feel clean. I love it and recommend it to my friends and family. Periogen will naturally improve your oral health and it is the only oral rinse on the market that is targeting dental tartar build up. It got rid of my bleeding gums and started reducing the tartar on my bottom teeth.

Since the 1960’s mouth rinses have been colorful and minty, but done absolutely nothing for oral health. They will temporarily freshen your breath, but destroy your oral flora each time you use them. This is not the case with Periogen. It actually prevents the hardening of dental plaque buildup.

Periogen is not acidic. It has a healthy 7.5 pH. It doesn’t damage enamel, gules, or dental appliances. It is great for keeping tartar buildup in check. Periogen makes oral health easy and affordable.

Nourishing Fats, Book Overview

Sally Fallon Morell is the president of the Weston A. Price Foundation and has been at the forefront of mindful eating for the last two decades. Her book identifies the origins of our current health misconceptions. She supports and expands on the scientific research that eating a wide range of good fats will improve our health.

This book draws on extensive research that indicates that saturated fat plays a role in developing a healthy brain, heart, kidney, lungs, and endocrine system. Healthy fats are essential for proper tooth and bone formation.

The Good & the Bad:

The Good:

PRO #1: The origin of current health is established and Sally Fallon Morell identifies the weaknesses of the research that indicates that saturated fats are bad for you.
PRO #2: The writing is interesting and engaging.

PRO #3: There are recipes for traditional healthy fats in the back of the book. You will learn how to make a healthy version of ice cream, sour cream, mayonnaise, and ranch dressing. The recipes include healthier versions of main dishes as well.

The Bad:

CON #1: The short lesson on the biochemistry of fats is not all that simple and easy to understand.
CON #2: Much of the content in this book is explained in her online interviews promoting the book.

Who is Nourishing Fats for?

The information in this book is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their health. Parents raising children with ADHD and autism will benefit immensely from the ideas and content of this book.

As someone with epilepsy, I appreciate learning more about fats and how they support brain function. I have increased my intake of healthy pasture-raised fats and feel great.

Nourishing Fats Tools & Training

This is a paperback book, so there are no tools or training included. You simply need to know how to read. The nice thing about this book is that you don’t need a laptop and electricity to read it. You can simply use a bookmark when you want to stop. It is very old-fashioned.

I do believe that the book is also available on kindle.

Nourishing Fats Price

The book is listed at $24.99 on Amazon. This seems reasonable for a 250-page paperback book now that we have increasing amounts of inflation on just about everything. Normally, I like to spend below $20 for a book, but we are experiencing massive inflation due to government spending. The cost of this book is likely to go up in the coming months. It is a good time to buy it.

My Final Opinion of the Nourishing Fats Book

I really like the book. I’m definitely enjoying reading a physical book again as opposed to staring at a screen and scrolling down the page. I do like knowing where the ideas around fats being bad came from and how the studies don’t exactly indicate that fats are bad.

I think that it is important for people to understand that many studies can be designed to create the result that the company wants them to reflect. This means that manufacturers who pay for studies are likely to hide the negative impacts that may occur from drugs. That is why we so often see lawsuit advertisements only a few years after a new drug comes on the market.

Should You Take Grass Fed Beef Liver Capsules?

Grass fed liver is all the rage in the ketogenic and carnivore community. Even the GAPS dieters will confirm that grass fed liver has a plethora of vitamins and minerals that you want to give your body.

But should you buy desiccated grass fed beef liver capsules?

I decided to give them a whirl when my local grass fed beef guy told me he’d be away for two whole weeks. I can’t get liver from the local supermarket. I need to either order it online or purchase it from a specialty market. Even our local Whole Foods didn’t seem to have liver.

The Convenience!

The first thing that I noticed when taking the beef liver capsules was that it was incredibly convenient. I didn’t have to thaw out frozen beef liver. I didn’t have to cut up a pound of beef liver. There were no dark juices dripping all over my counter top.

It was super easy. Just pop open the top and gulp down a couple capsules with water. I had been doing that with anti-convulsants since the age of 13.

I can see myself purchasing this product again for when I want to go on vacation and still get my dose of beef liver in my diet.

 

 

The Cost

Here’s where the local farmers beat out the desiccated beef liver capsules. I found bottles of grass fed beef liver supplements on Amazon from prices ranging from $10 for 180 capsules to $40 for the same amount.

As you read on the bottle, it says that 6 capsules is the equivalent of one ounce of beef liver. That gives us a good way to figure out approximately how much nutrition we are getting.

When we compare it to fresh beef liver, the capsules will lose every time. I can get sixteen ounces (1lb.) of fresh beef liver for $5 from my local grassfed butcher. This could be a discount because he is local. If I ordered it from U.S. Wellness Meats, I would be paying $10 per pound of beef liver.

I chose the most cost-effective supplement – Flyby. At $10, it was the closest in cost to fresh beef liver. They have since done some math and raised their prices.

I don’t know how they were making a profit when their bottles were only $10, but at $15 their prices are still reasonable.

 

The Quality

With grass fed beef liver supplements, you have to go by what is on the bottle. Unless, of course, you know the manufacturer and can visit the place where they source the product.

I did a lot of online comparison and didn’t find much difference in the marketing of beef liver supplements. Many of them touted New Zealand or Argentina beef as the best grass fed beef in the world.

I can’t confirm or deny that. The best I can do is try it out and see if it works for me.

In the week and a half since I have started taking the grass fed beef liver supplements, I haven’t seen massive improvements in my health, but I’ll keep you posted.

 

Beef Liver Benefits

Beef liver is one of the most nutrient dense organs. The vitamins and minerals within beef liver have been known to promote healthy teeth, gums, skin and hair. It is said to support energy, mood, metabolism and methylation.

Beef liver supports the heart, brain and liver health. There is a theory that “like supports like” where if you eat a liver, your liver health will improve. That may not necessarily be the case, but psychologically you may feel more confident in your liver health by taking the liver capsules.

 

 

My Final Conclusion

Beef liver capsules are a bit pricey, but worth having on hand when you can’t get fresh beef liver into your diet. They are perfect for traveling and emergencies where you know that your diet will be poor but don’t have the time or convenience to source some great grass fed beef liver.

I’m absolutely sold on the nutrient density of beef liver after reading George Minot’s study on curing pernicious anemia with high doses of beef liver. Pernicious anemia is an autoimmune condition and while my autoimmune condition is a bit different, I am hoping that my body reacts positively to the beef liver in a few short weeks as the study participants in 1926 did.

The price per ounce seems a bit high compared to regular vegetables, but you take a much smaller dose of this each time. There are 30 servings in each container, so it comes out to less than a dollar per day.

There are other greens powders that are less expensive, but the ingredients aren’t quite as high quality as Amazing Grass. Garden of Life Green Superfood is $3.23 per ounce, so I would say that Amazing Grass Green Superfood is competitively priced.

If you are comparing taking this supplement to juicing, you will be saving yourself a lot of money and a lot of time. Juicing requires buying a lot of organic produce and then investing time in washing, cutting, juicing and cleaning it up.

My Final Opinion of Amazing Grass Green Superfood

I actually loved this product when I took it. The Lemon Lime and Berry flavors were my favorite. I didn’t mind the slight taste of wheatgrass. I adjusted to it. In fact, after a few days, I really did enjoy the flavor of it. I preferred it in water so I could enjoy the taste rather than in my smoothies, which were already pretty flavorful.

The downside to Amazing Grass Green Superfood was that I didn’t see any improvement in the autoimmune condition that I was hoping it would cure. I used this product for about six months, but I didn’t see any hair regrowth for my alopecia universalis. For that reason, I discontinued using it and tried other products. It isn’t a miracle cure, but you may feel more energized by taking it.

So, why did I only give it an 80/100? I’m not sure that some of the nutrients are essential. In fact, the longer that I do the ketogenic diet, the more I am convinced that you can get all the essential vitamins and minerals that you need from meats. Eating meat isn’t popular with vegans and omnivores may still feel that there are essential vitamins in vegetables.

This product may help many people feel better because it does provide a good dose of many essential vitamins. It has 61% of your daily recommended intake of vitamin K, which is great for building bones. One scoop will also get you 40% of the daily recommended value of vitamin C.

One of the nice things about this superfood powder is that it only contains about 1 gram of fiber. Fiber is not an essential nutrient and can actually be very harmful to individuals with digestive disorders. It can irritate the gut. Taking a powder with a high amount of nutrients and low amount of fiber can encourage the gut to heal.

FILA 8 Pound Hand Weight, Product Overview

This is one 8 pound hand weight. Make sure that you take note of that! Most people need two hand weights, but these are sold individually! I made that mistake of not reading it correctly. I ordered one instead of two. So, I will be ordering another one shortly! Lesson learned: Pay attention to the descriptions and read the reviews.

FILA’s weights are covered with neoprene for your comfort. The neoprene exterior provides for a solid grip and is easy on your floors. The hexagonal shape of the weights keeps the weights from rolling around when you aren’t using them.

These are great weights to strengthen and tone targeted muscle groups. They are very functional. The eight pound weights are great for multiple reps and can easily be added to cardio workouts for added intensity.

PRO #1: I love the hexagonal shape. It keeps them from rolling around on my floor. I can easily store them.

PRO #2: I’m a huge fan of the neoprene. It makes the weights so much more comfortable to hold when you are doing a workout that uses them off and on.

PRO #3: The 8 pound weight is just challenging enough that you can add them in when you are doing some cardiovascular workouts such as jumping on a trampoline or during a session on the treadmill.

The Bad:

CON #1: Eight pounds will not build a lot of muscle. For most people, it isn’t challenging unless you are doing a lot of repetitions.

CON #2: This is only one dumbbell. You’ll have to order two. They do not come in a set!

These are great for people who are looking to tone up their arms. This is ideal for women who want to get rid of the bat wings that happen after the age of forty. As I mentioned earlier, these dumbbells come individually. Therefore, you will need to buy two. They are not a set. It was about $12 for one. I thought it was such a great deal and less expensive the Amazon Basic Dumbbells, but that is not the case. Amazon Basics typically has the lowest cost. However, Amazon Basics was out of the 8 lb. weight set when I ordered these. It is slightly more expensive than that set of weights once you purchase the second one, but it is reasonable. You’ll end up paying $25 for weights, which is a dollar more than the Amazon Basics set. Because they are a necessary part of a workout program, you will use them and get your money’s worth.

 

My Final Opinion of FILA 8 lb. Hand Weights

I love the hexagonal shape and the neoprene that these weights are made from. That is actually pretty standard in this industry. It makes it easy to use these weights and not have them roll away during your workout. This is a good version of a pretty basic product.

I love that they are lightweight and easy to pick up and use with my workout DVDs. I even like the bright color of the neoprene. The eight pound weight comes in lime. (It may come in other colors, but when I ordered, it was only offering the 8 lb. weight in lime.)

Overall, I’m happy with my purchase. Weights are an important aspect of working out. Even though they aren’t heavy, there are many exercises that you can use them with and challenge yourself. These 8 lb. hand weights will tone your arms and increase the intensity of your workout. With the right workout, they will be challenging for you!

My Final Opinion of the Simply Fit Board

First and foremost, I must admit that I love the workout with the Simply Fit Board. I can tell that this is going to strengthen my core and is improving my posture. I can feel the leg muscles talking to me after only 3 workouts. I felt the workouts were fun. I even did one in the morning and in the evening yesterday.

Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed to see how many reviewers on Amazon were saying that their boards cracked after a few months. I’m personally going to enjoy the workouts with mine as much as possible. If mine cracks, I probably will look for other home workouts and workout products instead of buying a new one. They will replace it if it breaks, so that is a plus. I’m not sure how long they continue to replace them though.
